We had a fantastic time at Prae Wood, celebrating World Book Day 2025. Pupils were invited to attend school dressed as a book character or to come in their comfy clothes, ready to relax and really immerse themselves in reading- we all know the pleasure that getting lost in a book can bring....
The day was planned around the objectives of Reading for Pleasure, Talking about Books, Taking a Break (the importance of movement and brain breaks for our mental and physical health through the day cannot be underestimated), Story Building (creating buildings based on a story) and Sharing Audio Books.
Pupils were encouraged to consider the following questions, when talking about their books:
We all took some time out during the day to relax in a comfy and cosy space, where we could really immerse ourselves in our stories and allow the authors to carry us off to other worlds with the power of their narrative
Pupils spent some time creating buildings, based upon stories they have read
Movement breaks throughout the day kept us energised, sharp and focused
A rather surprising visitor arrived at each classroom throughout the day. Our librarian, Mrs Hunt, slipped on a dinosaur suit and made her way around the school with a mission to remind pupils about the fun to be had by reading information books, as well as story books. Everyone listened very carefully to the T-Rex visitor.....
Mrs Hunt also took the time to congratulate our most prolific library user in KS2. Jessica has borrowed and read 300 books from the KS2 library, Elder. Her 300th book borrowed coincided with World Book Day, so she received a visit from the dinosaur and a round of applause from her classmates! 300 is almost double the number of books the second top borrower has been loaned!
Well done to all our pupils for their imaginative and exciting costumes, as well as to those choosing their comfiest clothes. We were impressed with the effort put into these AND the beautifully decorated book bags, which were used to carry pupils' favourite books to school
